To be brought to Navi Mumbai in containers, undergo tests and trials at depot

The trains for the first phase of the Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 are expected to reach Taloja depot in 10 days, after which they will undergo various tests for a month.

Clearances awaited

“Two trains with three cars each have reached the Mumbai port from China. Few documents were required for custom clearance, which we have sent. After the formalities are done, we expect the trains to reach Navi Mumbai within 10 days. The trains will be brought in containers to the Taloja Metro depot,” CIDCO superintendent engineer Deepak Hartalkar said.

Trial runs on the tracks are expected to be carried out by October. The Metro will be open to public from 2020, Mr. Hartalkar said.

Station work on

“Work on the stations is currently under way, and we expect them to be ready by October. Except for the 200-m tracks at 11 stations each, all the work of laying tracks is done. After the construction of stations, the rest of the tracks will be laid as per the platform level. Following this, the overhead wire work will start. At the depot, we will assemble the bogies and conduct tests on the bogies, wheels and brakes. We have an 850-m test track inside the depot and the testing will continue for close to a month and a half,” Mr. Hartalkar said.

Last month, a 130-m truss was assembled in stages across six tracks of the Panvel-Diva railway line at Taloja for the Metro, after mega blocks of a total 15 hours on Central Railway.

The truss will connect Amandoot and Taloja, ninth and tenth of the 11 stations on the 11.1-km first phase of Metro Line 1. Phase 1 of the corridor will be between Belapur and Pendhar.

The second phase of Metro Line 1 has been planned between Khandeshwar and Taloja MIDC, the third will connect Pendhar and Taloja MIDC, and the fourth phase will connect Khandeshwar and the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport near Panvel.
