Structures demolished for widening road

more-in

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken work on widening the connector between Link Road and SV Road in Andheri to 120 feet for greater mobility. This will require demolition of commercial and residential structures. About 16 commercial structures were pulled down on Tuesday.

Two of the busiest roads in western suburbs, Link Road and SV Road run parallel and are connected at many places. One of the connectors called ‘extended Link Road’ or ‘JVLR extension’ is lying unutilised as there is no proper road. With the Development Plan allowing a road line of 120 feet here, the BMC decided to construct a road.

Of the 16 commercial structures razed on Tuesday, two were eligible for rehabilitation and were shifted. The residential structures can only be demolished after the code of conduct is lifted. Once all structures are demolished, the road-widening work will begin.
