The Maharashtra State Election Commission will conduct an international conference on October 25 and 26 to celebrate the 73rd and 74th amendments to the Constitution, State Election Commissioner J.S. Saharia said on Monday.

Mr. Saharia and secretary Shekhar Channe released the official logo for the conference, which will be on the theme of ‘Better Elections for Healthier Democracy’, at a press conference at the State EC office.

Mr. Saharia said representatives from democratic countries will debate issues regarding election to local bodies. The EC has received support from the Association for Democratic Reforms, Commonwealth Local Self Government Forum, Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics, Pune, International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, University of Mumbai, and Resource and Support Centre for Development in organising the conference.

Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao will address the inaugural session on October 25, while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will attend the valedictory session on October 26. Several other leaders will be present on both days.

The conference will be held at The Leela, Mumbai.
