Goods stalls in South Mumbai were demolished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Friday after their owners failed to reply to an inspection report issued to them. The stalls of 11 licensed hawkers, including owners of popular food stalls such as Punjab Sindh and Wrap and Rolls on Bhulabhai Desai Road, were demolished.
Investigating officer Suhas Karvande said, “The hawkers did not have permission to sell goods. They were operating using licences issued to other hawkers.” A team of 20 workers demolished the stalls using JCBs and four vans. All licensed hawkers were asked to submit a show-cause notice, but none of them complied with the order.
