Mumbai: Students of SNDT Women’s University in Juhu gathered on the campus on Sunday afternoon to protest the harassment by a hostel warden after a 19-year-old student was allegedly asked by her to strip.
They alleged that the girl, who is suffering from skin infection, was wearing loose clothes as instructed by her doctor. The warden, Rachna Zaveri, objected to her clothing and asked her to strip and show the infection, in front of a few girls around 2 p.m., a student said.
Some of the students got on to the social media. “The hostel warden asked her to strip her clothes despite being a lady herself. We need justice,” said one. Another wrote, “Women’s hostel suffers harassment at the hands of hostel warden, today she provoked a girl to take her clothes off and prove skin infection.”
Soon after the 19-year-old approached her seniors, a protest was planned. While the students demanded her suspension, the Santacruz police have registered an FIR under Section 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage modesty) against Ms. Zaveri.
