Six held with old notes worth ₹1 cr. in Thane

Six persons were arrested in Thane on Friday for being in possession of old currency notes worth ₹1 crore.

The Kasar Wadavli police said the arrests were made following a tip-off.

An officer said, “Our plain-clothes personnel camped outside Hawre City Housing Society on Ghodbunder Road on Friday afternoon and intercepted the accused who arrived in a Mahindra Xylo.”

The officer said, “We seized 9,985 notes of ₹1,000 and 30 notes of ₹500. The six accused were arrested. They are being interrogated to find out who provided them with the notes and whom they were going to hand it over to.”

The accused have been identified as Suresh Zodge, Malkaan Pawar, Uttam Patil, Naresh Kulkarni, Surendra Lubhana and Amol Shinde. The police are probing if they have a criminal record.
