Navi Mumbai: Seven people were injured after a trailer rammed into three vehicles on Nerul LP Bridge and blocked traffic movement for around two hours on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. when the trailer going towards Mumbai rammed into a Wagon R. “The trailer driver then probably lost control and jumped over the divider and hit two other cars in the opposite lane. The trailer driver fled the spot. We took the injured to hospital with the help of the Nerul police and the public. Later, we brought a crane and removed the trailer,” Turbhe traffic senior police inspector Kisan Gaikwad said. The two cars, an Eco and a Nissan Micra, were going towards Pune.

Eknath Hatankar (45) and Surekha Eknath Hatankar (42) received minor injuries and were discharged after treatment at the NMMC Hospital in Vashi. The other injured identified as Pramod Gulab (29), a resident of Chembur, Jyoti Gaikwad (44) from Police Line, Reyansh Naresh Patel (24), a resident of Vashi, and Mohammad Arif (40) from Bhiwandi, were admitted to DY Patil Hospital. The driver of Wagon R, who received serious injuries, is yet to be identified, and is in DY Patil Hospital.

“Till the time the trailer was not removed, we had blocked the traffic on the bridge and vehicles moved slowly on the road below for a few hours,” Mr. Gaikwad said.

A case against the driver of the trailer has been registered under Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 425 (mischief) of the IPC, and Section 184 (dangerous driving) of the Motor Vehicle Act.
