This year’s second cadaver organ donation was carried out on Monday after the family of a 52-year-old man consented to donate his heart, liver, kidneys, and cornea.
The patient, who had suffered from a brain haemorrhage, was declared brain dead at the Fortis Hospital in Kalyan.
Since the hospital is a Non-Transplant Organ Retrieval Centre, the organs were retrieved and sent to other hospitals for transplant.
The heart was transplanted to a patient in Fortis Hospital in Mulund, the liver was transplanted to a patient in Global Hospital and the two kidneys were sent to Jupiter Hospital.
The city recorded its first cadaver donation this year on January 1, when the son of a 61-year-old man consented to donate his kidneys, after he suffered a brain haemorrhage.
