Screening of Muzaffarnagar riots documentary cancelled

August 25, 2015 07:12 am | Updated March 29, 2016 05:24 pm IST - MUMBAI:

One of the two private screenings of a documentary on the Muzaffarnagar riots, which ran into opposition from an RSS offshoot in Delhi, was called off here on Monday.

But students of the Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) have decided to go ahead with the screening on their campus in eastern Mumbai on Tuesday.

The two screenings in the city are part of a nationwide promotion of Muzaffarnagar Baaqi Hai , a documentary on the riots at Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, before the 2014 general election, and the communal polarisation that followed. It will be shown at 50 places nationwide on Tuesday.

The organisers said they faced a ‘technical problem’ that led to the cancellation. But the police hinted that the organisers did not have a censor board certificate.

On Sunday night, police officers visited The Hive at Bandra, where it was to be screened.
