Western Railway (WR) has urged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to remove the dead load from road and foot overbridges between Dahisar and Churchgate. WR general manager A.K. Gupta highlighted this and other issues during a meeting with the new BMC commissioner on Tuesday.

“It was brought to the notice of the municipal commissioner that tThere are many road and foot overbridges and other overhead structures belonging to the BMC. During the course of inspection, iIt was seen that several structural changes, like paver blocks, cables and water pipelines increased the dead load on these bridges. Accordingly, the BMC has been requested to remove such dead loads,” Ravinder Bhakar, chief public relations officer, WR, said.

Other topics discussed included the speedy disbursal of deposit funds for maintenance and repairs of the railway portion of these bridges, shifting of overhead water pipelines, construction of new staircases and escalators in the municipal limit area, drain cleaning and monsoon preparations.
