Koparkhairane police are on the lookout for a Pune-based accountant for creating a fake profile on Facebook and sending vulgar messages to his former colleague after she rejected his marriage proposal.
According to police the accused, identified as Sidharam Mhetre, was the complainant’s colleague at an accountants’ firm in Pune.
“The two were in relationship and had decided to get married. The girl’s family agreed to the marriage as they belonged to the same caste. But the boy never introduced his family; neither did he reveal anything about them and hence, the girl broke up with him and shifted to Koparkhairane,” Senior Police Inspector Shivaji Awate from Koparkhairane Police station, said.
Later, the family arranged the girl’s marriage to another man. The accused kept making calls to her and harassed her to marry him. She lodged a police complaint and the calls stopped.
“Later, the accused created a fake profile using the girl’s childhood pet name and started posting vulgar messages to her. He started sharing their couple photos as well. He also started sending messages to her relatives stating that he won’t let her marry anyone else,” Mr. Awate said.
The complainant had no idea of where the accused lived. All she knew was that he was from Karnataka and worked in Pune. “We are looking out for him,” Mr. Awate said.
Mr. Mhetre has been booked under Section 354 D (committing the offence of stalking via electronic communication) of the Indian Penal Code.
