Central Railway (CR) services between Ambivali and Titwala stations was suspended for close to two hours due to a protest by slum dwellers on Sunday.

The incident happened near Titwala station between 12.30 p.m. to 2.06 p.m. According to CR officials, the Forest Department had demolished over 200 slums and hutments near the area. CR chief public relations officer Sunil Udasi said, “The agitation was against the Forest Department and the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation, possibly to stop the anti-encroachment drive they have been conducting.”

Mr. Udasi said two suburban trains were cancelled, but no long-distance train was cancelled or short-terminated. Services resumed after the protest was called off around 2 p.m.

A mega block operating between Mulund and Matunga from 11.10 a.m. to 3.40 p.m. on the Central line caused further inconvenience to commuters.
