A group of pro-Tamil activists on Sunday staged a protest outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai for supporting Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa during a poll campaign in the island nation.

Salman was recently in Colombo with actor Jacqueline Fernandez after accepting the invitation by Mr. Rajapaksa’s son Namal, to campaign for his father.

“Salman Khan down down,” the protestors shouted holding placards condemning the superstar.

A protestor told reporters that the demonstration was to oppose Salman’s move to campaign for Mr. Rajapaksa as the Sri Lankan Army and its President were allegedly responsible for killing Tamilians during the nation’s 26-year-old civil war.

A police officer present at the demonstration site said 10 to 15 people have been taken into custody.
