Postpone LLM exams, say students

Members of the Students’ Law Council and the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa have sought postponement of the first year Masters in Law exams.

The delegation, which met Mumbai University (MU) registrar Dinesh Kamble on Monday, claimed that the semester exams had been scheduled for January 17, though the last date of admission for the course was December 24.

Sachin Pawar, president, Student Law Council, said, “The admission process continued way into December this year. Most students haven’t been able to attend many lectures and their attendance is also low. MU should consider holding exams at least in February.”

However, Narayan Rajyadaksha, principal, New Law College, said: “If students insist on following the 90-day academic learning rule, than the exams will have to be conducted in July or August, which will affect the already disrupted exam schedule this year. In the interest of students who will appear for exams next year, the current batch must adjust.”

Mr. Kamble said he did not have the jurisdiction to take a decision on postponing the exams. He said, “Whatever needs to be done in the interests of the student community will be done. I have forwarded their appeal to the Board of Examinations which will take a call on it.”
