Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar, on Monday, said Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Dr. Pallavi Darade, has written to Director General of Police Subodh Kumar Jaiswal seeking formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the defence hospital medicine scam.

“DGP had written to me asking if SIT can be formed to which we have agreed. The links to the case are spread across the country and in Maharashtra alone we have 11 cases registered with Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Navi Mumbai police,” he said, adding that the DGP will decide on the team members of SIT. “It will mostly be a combination of FDA and police officials,” Mr. Kumar said.

Of the 11 cases registered in State, only Navi Mumbai Police have been able to crack the case and arrest nine accused. Two links have led the team to Pathankot Military Hospital and Varanasi Military Hospital. “We have identified the men from the hospital who are involved in the scam and have notified the hospital authorities. They have assured us an internal inquiry,” the commissioner said.
