The Esplanade court on Tuesday sent two auditors associated with the ₹4,355-crore PMC Bank scam to police custody till November 15.
Ketan Pravinchand Lakdawala (60) and Jayesh Dhirajlal Sanghani (61) were arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) were produced before a holiday court.
As per the EOW, Mr. Lakdawala of Lakdawala Associates served for FY 2017-18 and 2018-19, and Mr. Sanghani from Ashok and Jayesh Associates served as statutory auditor for PMC Bank from 2009 to 2018.
The agency said, the duo overlooked the irregularities in the bank and hid non-performing assets accounts of HDIL from Reserve Bank of India (RBI). It also The agency said the duo had been conniving with PMC Bank’s ex-MD Joy Thomas and its former chairman Waryam Singhs.
While seeking their custody, the agency alleged they served during the peak of the fraud and shielded it. They also certified the adulterated financial statement of PMC Bank as true and authentic.
The police said they want to interrogate the two to establish who received the money.
On Monday, the city civil and sessions court had rejected the anticipatory bail plea of two directors of PMC — Parmeet Sodhi and Surijit Narang. The EOW had opposed the plea by stating that six people have died because of losing their money.
