Former television executive and Sheena Bora murder accused Peter Mukerjea’s advocate filed an application before a special Central Bureau of Investigation court on Friday seeking bail on medical grounds.
Mr. Mukerjea’s advocate informed Special Judge J.C. Jagdale that he is at the Asian Heart Institute and has to undergo a bypass surgery. He also needs post-operative care and a stress-free environment. The application will be heard on March 27.
On March 18, the judge had allowed Mr. Mukerjea to be shifted to a private hospital for treatment, after he suffered a mild heart attack. Mr. Mukerjea has been lodged at Arthur Road jail since November 19, 2015, and was admitted to J.J. Hospital on March 16 evening after he complained of chest pain. An ECG suggested some abnormality, and he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Mr. Mukerjea has four blockages in his main arteries. The report suggested he should undergo either a bypass surgery or an angioplasty at the earliest.
Mr. Mukerjea’s lawyer had ealier argued for his bail by saying at no point was any role played by him in the conspiracy to murder Sheena, except for some phone calls. He had also said that there is no motive for him to conspire to kill Sheena as his wife, Indrani, had told him she is in the U.S.
