Navi Mumbai: The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to install closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) in all its 11 primary schools. A tender will be floated for 140 CCTVs to be installed at the school gate and in the gallery.

Civic chief Sudharkar Shinde said, “The recent incident in Gurugram is a shock. The step has been taken to fulfil our commitment to providing security.”

Education officer Nisha Vaidu said the move will ensure averting untoward incidents. “Every six months, students are taught about good and bad touch. Even a seminar on child behaviour is organised for parents. We conduct workshops for our 71 teachers to counsel them on how to treat a child.”

The corporation has 11 primary schools and the student strength is 943 boys and 1,073 girls.
