Director General of Police Satish Mathur has said that those involved in human trafficking will be booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). He said the rule will be implemented in the next three months to instil fear in the minds of offenders and act as a deterrent against human trafficking.

Mr Mathur said, “We will soon set up one anti-human trafficking unit in every district. The units will be headed by a deputy superintendent of police. It is important to bring human trafficking under MCOCA as it is an organised crime.”

MCOCA gives an investigating agencies power to hold an accused in custody for 30 days rather than 14 days. They also get 180 days to file a charge sheet.
