The Shiv Sena and Congress have approached the State Election Commission (SEC) against an advertisement by NGO Mumbai First for allegedly promoting the BJP’s agenda on polling day.
The complaint by Dharmendra Mishra, a Yuva Sena worker, said the advertisement calling for ‘transparency’ and ‘change’ in the civic body is a clear violation of the Election Commission of India’s model code of conduct. “The BJP, with the help of actor Aamir Khan, is trying to influence voters. I’m surprised election authorities are not concerned with this violation,” he said.
Mr. Mishra in his complaint noted that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is active in Mumbai First’s war room committee.
The Congress said despite being the ruling party the BJP has violated the code of conduct. “We will be writing to the EC against the government seeking stern action. It will create a bad precedent if the SEC decides to be silent,” said party spokersperson Sachin Sawant.
