Mazgaon Court to be demolished, govt invites tenders

The state government on Monday told the Bombay High Court that it will issue a tender for the demolition of Mazgaon Court.

A division bench of Justices SC Dharmadhikari and Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi was hearing a PIL filed by the Mazgaon Bar Association seeking directions to expedite the construction and urgent disbursal of funds for restoration of the Mazgaon court complex.

Acting Advocate General Rohit Deo informed the court that Rs 29 crore has been allocated for 2016-17 and only when actual work commences will higher allocations be made. He also said separate tenders will be issued for demolishing the old building and for reconstruction. The court has adjourned the matter till May 5.

Earlier, advocate Uday Warunjikar appearing for the petitioner pointed out the budgetary allocation for court infrastructure was Rs 449 crore whereas the cost of building the complex has been estimated at Rs 387 crore and the government has allocated only Rs 10 crore so far.
