It’s payback time for BJP

March 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 06, 2016 02:30 pm IST - MUMBAI:

A day after the Shiv Sena openly criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party over the controversial statements by Advocate General Shrihari Aney, the BJP attacked the Sena-ruled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation over repeated fires at Deonar dumping ground.

All BJP MLAs from Mumbai staged a protest outside the Assembly.

“The BJP will have to hit the streets if the civic administration fails to take measures against the fire incidents. Residents are suffering because of the fire,” said BJP city chief and MLA Ashish Shelar.

Earlier in the Assembly, Congress MLA Aslam Sheikh and Samajawadi Party MLA Abu Azmi raised the issue urging the government to direct the civic body to take immediate steps to save the people from the pollution.

Slamming the BMC commissioner over his ‘no entry’ diktat in the dumping ground area, Mr Shelar said such announcement will serve no purpose.

“Presently the need is to call for global tenders to take care of the dumping ground scientifically. We will follow up the issue and if need be, protests will be launched.”
