Fashion design student commits suicide

A 22-year-old girl from Kolkata, studying in Mumbai, was found to have hanged herself to death in her apartment at Malad on Wednesday night.

The Malwani police identified the victim as Hina Gilani, 22, a student of a fashion design institute in Marol, Andheri. “On Wednesday night, her landlord, who stays on the ground floor, went up to the apartment to check on her as he had not seen her all day. When repeated ringing of the doorbell elicited no response, he forced the door open with the help of neighbours. Hina was seen hanging from the ceiling fan,” said senior police inspector Milind Khetle. Hina was rushed to Siddharth Hospital in Goregaon, where she was declared dead. “We found a diary in Hina’s apartment, in which she had written she loved her parents very much, that she was sorry for what she was doing and that no one was responsible for her extreme step,” Mr Khetle said.

“Preliminary enquiries revealed that she had gone to Kolkata a month ago, where she saw a psychiatrist to seek treatment for depression,” Mr Khetle added.
