Bhujbal’s charge sheet: no arrest till May 25 for 7 businessmen

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted protection from arrest till May 25 to seven businessmen, whose names appear in the charge sheet filed against NCP leader and former deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal in money laundering cases.

A vacation Bench of Justice AS Gadkari was hearing anticipatory bail applications filed by the seven businessmen: Sanjiv Jain, Praveen Jain, Chandrakant Sarda, Jagdish Purohit, Rajesh Mistry, Vipul Karkaria and Asif Balwa. All of them moved the court against the non-bailable warrants against them.

Mr. Bhujbal was arrested on March 14 for receiving money in lieu of projects awarded to contractors when he was the Public Works Department Minister between 2004 and 2014.

As per the FIRs filed against him, the loss to the State exchequer has been estimated at Rs. 870 crore.
