haratiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday said that a grand Ram temple would come up in Ayodhya by Ram Navami next year. Dr Swamy said there could be no compromise on the temples allegedly pulled down by Mughal rulers. He was speaking at a seminar here on ‘Why Sri Ram temple at Ayodhya & How?’

Replying to a question on why the resources that will be used to build the temple should not be directed to construct schools, houses, and roads, Dr Swamy said he did not want the government to build the temple, and said the people will build it.

Mr Swamy, who had moved the Supreme Court in February seeking construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site, said: “We have an extremely strong case in the Supreme Court and our victory is certain. If daily hearing begins by July-end, the matter will be over this year-end. It will take only three months to erect a grand Ram temple and we will be worshipping Lord Ram in that temple by next Ram Navami.”

He said he had no political agenda behind raising the issue before the UP elections. “I am only taking the party’s election manifesto forward. If someone feels it will be politically beneficial, then why can’t they take it forward?”

Additional Solicitor General G Rajagopalan, who earlier spoke at the seminar, said the survey report of the Archaeological Survey of India on the disputed site made it clear that a temple existed there.

“This can’t be questioned by anyone.” “It is nothing but faith and as per the Article 25 of the Indian Constitution, it is the government’s duty to protect it,” he said.

The BJP leader, who is the founder and national president of Virat Hindustan Sangam, countered the criticism that targeted his party for raising the issue again as it has failed to deliver on its promises of development. “Hindutva was one of the three points on which our party campaigned, the others being better governance and fight against corruption. There are different people in the party who work on agendas of their own. I work against corruption and promote Hindutva.” He further said that the BJP got total majority in the last elections when only 32 per cent of the total Hindus voted for it. “Imagine our power if all Hindus, which is 80 per cent of the total population, come together,” he said, adding that Muslims who accept that their ancestors were Hindus can join.

On black money, Dr Swamy said the government has completed only two years and that the money will be back in the next three years. “I have suggested a different method to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. You can ask me questions if money does not come back in the next three years.”

Referring to the Tamil Nadu elections, Dr Swamy attacked Chief Minister Jayalalitha saying her end is near. “We (BJP) hope to open our account in Tamil Nadu.”
