Virar man had sex with girlfriend’s corpse: police

Devendra Bhosle, who was arrested for his lover Kinjal Shah’s murder, had told the police that he had sex with Ms. Shah’s corpse after killing her in Virar on Monday. But the post-mortem report is awaited to prove this.

The Arnala Coastal police have now booked Bhosle, a 23-year-old waiter with a five star hotel in south Mumbai, under section 376 (rape) and section 377 (unnatural sex) of the Indian Penal Code. He was arrested on murder charges on Tuesday, and produced before a local court, which remanded him in police custody till July 26.

“We are waiting for the post-mortem report to confirm two facts: the exact cause of death and if she was raped after her murder as claimed by the accused,” said inspector P.D. Kolhe of Arnala Coastal police station.

After the murder, Bhosle visited his parents in Moregaon, Nalla Sopara, and confessed to the crime. His father immediately locked him in his house and informed inspector Prakash Birajdar of Tulinj police station, who went to Moregaon on Tuesday evening. On seeing the police, Bhosle started to run, but and the cops apprehended him and alerted the Arnala Coastal police.

“When the accused was arrested by the Tulinj police, he had tried to mislead them by saying that he had murdered her by stabbing her multiple times with a knife. But Ms. Shah’s body had no external injuries,” said Mr. Kolhe.

On Monday, when Bhosle saw Ms. Shah roaming with someone else, he planned to teach her a lesson and offered to take her for an outing to Tungareshwar Bird Sanctuary in Vasai. “He drowned Ms. Shah after allegedly raping her, and also performed unnatural sex with her,” Mr. Kolhe said. Bhosle then asked locals for help, saying that his girlfriend was unconscious; he hailed an autorickshaw on the pretext of taking Ms. Shah to the hospital, but instead took her to Virar. Bhosle then dumped the body near an under-construction building, which is behind Ms. Shah’s residential building, and fled, Mr. Kolhe said.
