Members of the Bastar Solidarity Network Mumbai held a public conference on Saturday, retelling tales of injustice in the Maoist-infested district of Chhattisgarh and appealing for support.

Speaking on the occasion were social activists, jurors and journalists who have served in Bastar, where reports of mass rape and killings by the police and paramilitary forces abound.

Video journalist and social activist Linga Kodopi, a Bastar resident, said he was taken from his home by the police and forced to turn into a special police officer during the Salwa Judum . He later escaped using legal help from social activists and has been trying to help tribals.

He alleged that security forces were involved in sexually abusing locals, killing them and mutilating their bodies.
