The naked body of a Nigerian man, identified as Daniel Emenike Henry (30), was found in a highly decomposed state in his rented flat in Nalla Sopara (E) on Thursday late evening.
The death appeared to have occurred at least three days ago. On Thursday night, his neighbours complained to the police about a foul smell from his flat.
“We reached the spot and after breaking the main door found the nude body and in a highly decomposed state,” said police inspector Kailash Barve of Tulinj police station. “We found his fingers and wrist of the right hand touching the compressor section of the fridge in the kitchen, which was carrying live current. Therefore we suspect he may have been electrocuted.” Mr. Barve said that the police had not ruled out a possible drug overdose, and that the body has been sent for post mortem to the J J Hospital and its report is awaited.
Police investigations revealed that Mr. Henry was residing illegally in India: his business visa had expired on April 22, 2016. He is alleged to have regularly hosted ‘bachelor parties’ for his friends.
However, they could not find any record of his family members or any other details; they plan to write to the Nigerian government for more information. The police will also question the owner of the flat, Qadeer Syed.
