The Worli police on Thursday booked a 17-year-old boy for allegedly ramming into a police constable on duty, who tried to stop him during a traffic rule violation drive on Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. at Worli Naka, where constable Deepak Nikunje was posted with four of his colleagues to take action against helmetless riders and signal jumpers.

“The teenager was riding a scooter without a helmet and our personnel tried to stop him. However, he tried to evade them and in the process rammed his bike into Mr. Nikunje, injuring his arms and legs,” said an officer with the Worli police.

The police nabbed the accused and took him to the police station, while Mr. Nikunje was taken to Poddar Hospital, where he is under treatment.

The police then contacted the boy’s parents and registered a case against him under the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.
