A fire broke out outside the Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration (MCIA), which is under construction on the 20th floor of Express Towers at Nariman Point, on Thursday. Authorities reported no injuries and claimed that a short circuit in the electrical panel caused the blaze.

Five fire engines were rushed to the spot and offices on all floors were vacated.

P.S. Rahangdale, chief fire officer of Mumbai Fire Brigade, said the fire was reported at 2:31p.m., and the fire brigade arrived within seven minutes. “By 2:45 p.m., we sent a level 2 fire call, which is for a medium level of fire, and the situation was brought under control in the next 10 minutes.”

Madhukeshwar Desai, Chief Executive Officer of MCIA, said he was present in the office when the fire broke out. “ The fire emergency systems were activated and all of us were evacuated. .”

The MCIA is the first non-profit arbitral institution of its kind which is scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on October 8.
