The two young men, who were feared drowned at the Juhu beach on Friday, were confirmed dead in the early hours of Saturday, after their bodies washed ashore.

Sameer Sheikh (17) and Rajesh Chaudhari (20) had been missing after being pulled into the sea during the high tide.

The two had gone to the beach with three of their friends for a swim, and got caught in the waves. While their three friends managed to save themselves, Sheikh and Chaudhari had gone in too deep and could not be saved.

“The bodies of the victims were found on Saturday morning. We have registered accidental death reports in connection with their deaths,” said senior police inspector Shantanu Pawar, Santacruz police station.

The incident had occurred at around 2:15 p.m. on Friday and firefighters had for several hours tried to locate the two youths, but to no avail.
