The Nerul police have arrested a 39-year-old BPO employee for allegedly raping a 38-year-old woman from Amravati after coming into contact with her through a matrimonial site.
The police said the accused, identified as Daniel Vaz from Nerul, met the complainant, a B.Ed. graduate, online a few months ago and she accepted his marriage proposal. The officer said, “The duo has been chatting online for sometime now. Mr. Vaz said he wanted to meet the woman and she came down to meet him on January 29.”
The woman also told her parents that she was going to meet Mr. Vaz. The police said she stayed at his house in Darave village from January 29 to February 17. On February 18, the complainant approached the Nerul police and registered a rape case against Mr. Vaz. Inspector Bhaguji Auti said, “The complainant said she was raped four times at the accused’s residence. She said that she went to Mr. Vaz’s house to verify his occupation and address, but he forced her to stay back.”
After the case was registered, the Nerul police arrested Mr. Vaz on Tuesday. He has been remanded in police custody and the victim has returned to her house in Amravati.
