Navi Mumbai violence: man arrested for youth’s death

The Crime Branch arrested a 23-year-old man on Monday in connection with the murder of the 19-year-old youth who died in the violence in Koparkhairane during the Maratha Morcha on July 25.

The accused, Santosh Daware, is a resident of Koparkhairane village. “We found footage in which the deceased was seen being assaulted by Mr. Daware,” DCP (Crime Branch) Tushar Doshi said.

Rohan Dilip Todkar succumbed to his injuries at JJ Hospital on July 26.

One held for hate video

The Turbhe MIDC police on Sunday arrested a man for trying to increase tension between communities. Saajan Patil (24), a resident of Pawane, had recorded a video of himself threatening people and circulated it on WhatsApp on July 26. “The video was capable of increasing tension among communities and could fuel the violence which had subsided,” DCP, Zone I, Sudhakar Pathare said. Mr. Patil has been arrested under Section 505 (2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code.
