Mutilated body found in Mahape

Mumbai: The mutilated body of a girl aged between 18 and 21 years was found in a nullah at Mahape in Navi Mumbai on Saturday.

A few rag pickers saw the body and informed the police. “The body was mutilated above the neck and below the waist.We did a thorough search in the nearby areas for the remaining parts of the body, but didn't find anything. A case against an unidentified accused has been registered under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of the offence) of the IPC.” a police officer from Rabale MIDC Police Station said.

"The part found has been sent to JJ Hospital for autopsy. We will also be preserving the DNA of the body.Locating other parts, especially the head will help the case.The body is suspected to be at least four days old as it has started getting decomposed. ” the police officer said.

Due to the unavailability of CCTV cameras the investigation was haltered. “Apart form the probability of the girl belonging from a middle class family,the dress gave us no leads” the police officer from Rabale MIDC Police Station said.

Police are checking on the missing complaints from Navi Mumbai, Thane, Mumbai and Raigad.
