Anticipating handover of underworld don Chhota Rajan, the State government has issued an order handing over a high security prison block from famous Arthur Road Jail to the Mumbai Police.

As per the order issued on November 3, 2015, part of ground floor of circle number 12-B block has been handed over to the Mumbai Police for “important and secret” work at the rent of Rs. 1 per annum from State jail authorities.

The special security prison block was set up for Ajmal Kasab, the Pakistani terrorist caught in the 26/11 attack on Mumbai.

Presently, Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal who was deported from Saudi Arabia in 2012 after his arrest and is facing trial in the 2008 Aurangabad arms haul case is kept inside that cell.

Rajan is likely to be kept at the same area in prison once the Mumbai Police gets his custody once he was brought to the city from Bali in Indonesia. Ansari will be moved to different block after Rajan’s arrival.

The State government officials however did not mention the purpose behind renting out the block to Mumbai Police. Sources in the government confirmed that once the gangster is brought to the city, he will be moved in the same area.

Sources also mention that the block will be provided with facilities such as video conferencing and medical facilities for the gangster, who is facing kidney ailment. “Taking him to the court could be dangerous once trial against him starts. So alternate arrangements should be ready,” said a government official.
