Mumbai: Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) has installed solar panels on the roof of the Metro depot at DN Nagar.
The 2,000 rooftop solar panels with a capacity of 612 KWp are expected to generate 0.9 million units of energy annually, and will fulfil 25% of the auxiliary energy requirements of the depot. It is expected to help the MMOPL save around ₹50 lakh per annum.
The MMOPL has signed a power purchase agreement with the vendor for 25 years for setting up the panels, its operations, and maintenance. The MMOPL had fitted solar panels on the roofs of all of its 12 Metro stations and now has a total installed capacity of around 3 MWp. Electricity generated from solar panels are utilised for operations of various equipment like lighting, air-conditioning, lifts, escalators, and pumps.
An MMOPL spokesperson said, “We are committed to our ‘go green, go clean initiative’. After successful installation and commissioning of solar panels on 12 Metro stations, we are happy to install a new solar project at our Metro depot. In the long run, we wish to gradually increase our use of green energy.”
