During the Mumbai Marathon on Sunday, by 12.30 p.m., as many as 3226 marathoners required medical help, with a majority of them complaining of dehydration and muscle cramps.

Fifteen runners were hospitalised of which 13 were in the process of being discharged.

Dr. Vijay D’Silva, medical director of Asian Heart Institute that provides medical aid during the marathon, said that the weather conditions and the dust made it difficult for the marathoners.

“We had more cases of dehydration than last year,” he said adding that there were three runners who had fall injuries and one of them required stitches on the head.
