An alert morning walker saved a 77-year-old man who collapsed on Carter Road on Wednesday.

Bandra resident Samir Firasta gave a timely cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) manually to the senior citizen for about 15 minutes till the automated external defibrillator (AED) machine was called from the nearby Otters Club.

The incident took place around 9.15 a.m..

“The senior citizen wasn’t breathing and his heart stopped beating,” said Mr. Firasta, who had trained to perform CPR. “After the CPR and two rounds of shock with the help of the AED machine, the senior citizen breathed again,” he said.

Later an ambulance was called and the patient was taken to Holy Family Hospital. The patient was identified as Prem Nath, an architect by profession.

“I learned CPR a year-and-a-half ago from the I-Care Foundation run by Holy Family Hospital in Bengaluru. I decided to learn it after a near one suffered from a similar near-death experience,” Mr. Firasta said.
