Navi Mumbai: The office of the State Public Works Department (PWD) in Turbhe was vandalised by activists of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Monday, in protest against accidents due to potholes on the Sion-Panvel Highway.
Police said five MNS activists entered the PWD office in the morning and smashed computers, chairs, tables and other property. In a video released by MNS, party workers are heard verbally abusing Thane Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde and MoS (PWD) Praveen Pote. “Our demand for booking the Ministers and PWD officers for accidents caused due to potholes on the Sion-Panvel Highway have fallen on deaf ears. They haven’t taken cognisance of our protests. This is the last resort to make sure that they hear us,” Gajanan Kale from the MNS’ Navi Mumbai unit said.
Police arrested Shyam Dhamale, Nitin Khanvilkar, Nitin Chavan, Raju Khade and Vishal Bhilare of the MNS under IPC sections 141, 149, 342 and 429. “We saw the video, identified the men arrested them. They are remanded in judicial custody,” Senior PI Satish Nikam, APMC police station, said.
