A 35-year-old woman and a four-year-old child who had been missing since Thursday were found dead on the tracks between Bandra and Mahim stations. The victims were identified as Khatija Quereshi (38) and Abdulla Sayyed (3).

The government railway police (GRP) at Bandra railway police station were intimated by the station master that a fast train going towards Virar had hit two unidentified people at 10.13 p.m. on June 20.

The officials at the Bandra railway police station circulated the victims’ photos in nearby slum pockets and to police stations across the city. “We learnt that a woman and a child had gone missing from Bhandup on June 20 and a missing person’s report had been registered with the Bhandup police station. We contacted the complainant and asked her to come to Bandra railway police station,” senior police inspector Vilas Chougule said.

The complainant, Rehana Sayyed, identified the victims as her son and her sister. Ms. Sayyed told the police that her sister, who had a mental illness, had taken Abdulla for a walk. “According to the motorman, in spite of honking the horn continuously, the woman did not move away from the tracks,” a senior police official said.
