The Ambarnath police arrested a 20-year-old man on Thursday in connection with the death of his neighbour’s seven-year-old son.

The police said that Shivam Rajak’s parents had sent him to the local market to buy rice on Wednesday evening, but he did not return till 11 p.m. They then approached the police and a case of kidnapping was registered against unknown persons.

Senior Police Inspector K.G. Chavan said, “At 8 a.m. on Thursday, Shivam’s body was found two kilometres away from his house. There were severe head injuries on the body, which was taken to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar for post-mortem.”

On Thursday evening, Arjun Kumar (20), a resident of the locality, was picked up for questioning and he allegedly confessed to the crime. Mr. Kumar was arrested late on Thursday night and will be produced in court on Friday.
