Mumbai: A senior citizen travelling on the lower berth of Jaipur Superfast Express’ three-tier AC compartment was injured after the safety lock of the middle berth gave way bringing it down on her unexpectedly.

Saroj Joshi (63), a resident of Malad, in her complaint to the Railways said she and her husband, Ashwini Kumar Joshi, were booked on train number 2955 on April 29 and were allotted seats 9 and 12. The couple were returning from a wedding in Jaipur.

“As a senior citizen I was allotted the lower birth on request. A passenger who was allotted the middle berth decided to sleep and just after he climbed on to it, the safety lock gave way and it went straight to hit my wife’s head. She started bleeding,” said Mr. Joshi.

The couple also said after the incident, a first aid box was called for, but it took over 30 minutes, and Ms. Joshi was given antiseptic cream by fellow passengers.

Mrs. Joshi is planning to seek compensation for getting hurt while travelling.
