Mentally challenged woman raped; neighbour held

The Agripada police have arrested a 35-year-old man for raping his neighbour’s 24-year-old mentally challenged daughter.

The police said that accused raped the woman in a slum at 4 p.m. on Monday when her parents had gone to cast their vote.

Senior police inspector Savlaram Agawane said, “The accused worked as a hairstylist in a salon and called the woman over to his house .” He said the woman told her parents about the incident when they returned home. The police then registered an FIR and arrested the accused on Monday night.

Mr. Agawane said, “We have charged the accused with rape under the Indian Penal Code. The accused does not seem to have a criminal record and we are conducting further investigations into the matter.”
