A 29-year-old man wanted in 15 cases of robbery by the Navi Mumbai, Navghar and the Ulhas Nagar police has been arrested. The accused, identified as Sachin Suresh Jadhav, a resident of Kalyan, robbed men of their gold chains by approaching them with lucrative job opportunities.

On June 24, a case was registered where the complainant was robbed of his gold chain by Mr. Jadhav at Nanoshi in Panvel. The victim was approached by Mr. Jadhav who said he could help him with a job and asked him to sit on his bike.

“After taking him to an isolated place, he told the complainant that he would be meeting his girlfriend on the way and wanted to wear the complainant’s gold chain to show off. When the complainant denied, the accused assaulted him and snatched the chain,” senior police inspector Vinod Chavan, Panvel City police station, said.

The police found CCTV footage of the accused, which matched a history-sheeter who was arrested in 2011. When a team visited his residence at Shahad in Kalyan, it found that no one stayed there. With the help of an informer, the police got the contact number of the accused and traced him to Gandhar in Kalyan.

“The team recovered valuables worth ₹14.96 lakh from Mr. Jadhav. The accused used two bikes for the robberies, which were stolen in Nashik. He was arrested on July 4, and is in our custody till Thursday,” Ravindra Gotten, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Panvel division, said.
