Murder most foul: Kumar Bhoir (42) stabbed his wife Veena (37) to death with a kitchen knife.

Wife went missing for eight days, said she no longer wanted to live with him

Personnel at the Bhayander police station were thrown into a tizzy after a man walked into the station with fresh blood on his clothes and claimed that he had just killed his wife.

The police said that the accused, Kumar Bhoir (42), stayed with his wife Veena (37) in Murda village in Bhayander. While Mr. Kumar worked with a private firm in Mumbai, Veena was employed at a Chartered Accountant’s office on Bhayander Station Road.

Found in pool of blood

The police said Mr. Kumar reached the station at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and told the Station House Officer that he wanted to surrender as he had murdered his wife. The police took him into custody and started making inquiries and sent a team to Veena’s office. The team found Veena lying in a pool of blood on the office floor and rushed her to a local municipal hospital. She was declared dead before admission due to multiple stab wounds and loss of blood.

At the police station, Mr. Kumar told the police that Veena had disappeared from their house on January 2 and returned only on January 10. Police Inspector Rajesh Jadhav said, “After she returned, she refused to tell Mr. Kumar about where she had been. She only said that she did not want to stay with him any more. We verified this information and found that a missing person’s report had been registered with us. She had also come to record her statement when she returned. Following the incident, the strained relationship between the couple worsened.”

Mr. Jadhav said at 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday, Mr. Kumar reached Veena’s workplace and called her outside. He then demanded to know where she had been for the eight days. This led to a fight and passers-by advised them to go inside the office and resolve the issue. The couple went inside and Mr. Kumar allegedly whipped out a kitchen knife and stabbed Veena several times.

Growing marital discord

Mr. Jadhav said, “Inquiries conducted so far indicate that he might have been suspecting Veena of infidelity. This could have been one of the reasons behind the marital discord. The accused is not in a condition to speak any more. We will be conducting inquiries with family members, neighbours and friends of the couple.”

Mr. Kumar was arrested late on Tuesday night and will be produced in court on Wednesday. He has been charged with murder under the Indian Penal Code, the police said.
