Man killed fiancée before ending his life: autopsy

The post-mortem report of a couple, who were suspected to have committed suicide in Rabale, has confirmed that the man killed his fiancée before ending his life.

Dattatrey Vare (24), a Mathadi worker, strangled Sakshi Gole (19) with a belt, and later killed himself. “The reason behind the murder and the suicide could be found only by checking their chats on social media and WhatsApp. We tried to access their mobile phones but we could not since they were password protected. We have called in for an expert to unlock their phones,” senior police inspector Dinkar Mohite, Rabale police station, said.

The couple who were to get married in two months got engaged in May after they had met through Facebook around two years ago. A resident of Koparkhairane, Gole was pursuing B.Com and also working part-time in a private firm. Around 12 p.m. on Sunday, she had gone to meet Vare at his residence in Simplex Colony, Rabale. His younger brother who was present with Vare stepped out as Gole came in. By 2 p.m., when he returned home he found the couple dead.

“Initially we suspected the deaths to be a suicide, but a murder was confirmed only after the post-mortem. The family is shocked and has no clue what made Vare do this. According to them, both the families were happy with the alliance and all including the couple were looking forward to the wedding. A case of murder has been registered,” Mr. Mohite said.
