The police on Monday arrested a 46-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting his neighbour’s five-year-old daughter.

The police said the incident took place in a slum on Lal Nigam Road in Colaba on Sunday night. An officer with Colaba police said, “The accused took the girl to his house on Sunday night and sexually assaulted her. The girl then went home and told her mother about the incident.” The police said the girl’s mother then filed a complaint with them.

The police took the girl to St. George Hospital for a medical check up and later to JJ Hospital for examination. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Abhishek Trimukhe said, “The accused was picked up from his house and arrested.” Mr. Trimukhe said the victim is in good health. The accused has been charged with rape under the Indian Penal Code, and sexual assault on a minor under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
