Mumbai: A BEST driver from Chinchpada in Rabale was arrested on Tuesday for molesting his 21-year-old daughter for over a year. His daughter and wife approached the police only on Tuesday.
The Rabale MIDC police said the 47-year-old would molest his daughter, a final-year undergraduate student, after coming home in a drunken state. The victim had told her mother about it, but the mother was reluctant to do anything.
Around 11 p.m. on Monday, when the daughter was alone at home, he molested her again. “The mother had gone to her parents’ house for a religious function, while the daughter had stayed back. After Monday night’s incident, the victim, fed up with her father’s behaviour, called her mother and threatened to commit suicide if she did not do anything to stop the trauma,” said a police official.
The victim’s mother came home on Tuesday morning, and the two of them approached the Rabale MIDC police and registered a complaint. “If the mother had supported the daughter, the accused would have been arrested long back and the victim wouldn’t have had to go through this trauma. If the victim would not have threatened to commit suicide, her mother wouldn’t have approached us even now,” the official added.
The accused was arrested under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
Molested by neighbour
In another incident, a 28-year-old man was arrested on Monday for molesting his 25-year-old neighbour when she was asleep.
The victim lives with her husband, seven-year-old daughter, and brother-in-law at Digha in Rabale. On Monday morning, she had left the door of the house open as it was very hot. Around 5.30 a.m., the victim’s neighbour, Rajbhan Chandrabhan Hire (28), noticed the open door, entered the house and molested the victim.
“The accused ran away after the victim screamed for help. He was not drunk, and had entered the house after he found the door open. The family registered a complaint with us, after which we arrested Hire,” Assistant Police Inspector Pavan Bhingardive from the Rabale MIDC Police Station said.
Hire has been arrested under Sections 452 (house trespass) and 354 of the Indian Penal Code and remanded in police custody till Thursday.
