Man arrested after staging suicide bid

A 27-year-old man was arrested for on Thursday after staging a suicide attempt in Khanda Colony.

Saahil Bhagat, a history sheeter, was partying with his friends at Sector 7, Khanda Colony, on Thursday. He and the friends started quarrelling. “Mr. Bhagat thought his friends were recording a video of him, and staged a suicide attempt to scare them,” sub-inspector Vaibhav Ronge from the Khandeshwar police station said.

Mr Bhagat had earlier been externed by the Navi Mumbai Police. Mr. Ronge said, “We initially suspected this was a attempt to escape externment again.”

Mr. Bhagat called the police control room and said someone had come to his house to kill him. He threatened his friends that he would jump from the balcony. The police and fire brigade reached the spot, and two policemen brought him down. “He was drunk. We registered a case of attempt to suicide under Section 309 of the IPC,” Mr. Ronge said.
