Singing legend Lata Mangeshkar continued to be critical on Tuesday but doctors said her condition had not deteriorated further.

She was admitted to Breach Candy hospital on Monday after she suffered from acute breathlessness. Doctors have diagnosed her with pneumonia and a left ventricular failure.

The singer who turned 90 in September is on heavy medication to clear the infection and her X-ray has shown slight improvement, according to doctors treating her. She is on ventilator support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under the care of Dr. Pratit Samdani.

However, the veteran singer’s PR team said on Tuesday that she was “stable”.

“Her parameters are good. Honestly speaking, she has fought so well that she is coming out of this setback. Being a singer, her lung capacity has pulled her through. Truly a fighter. We will update everyone when Lataji gets discharged and comes home. (We) request that we give family the space they deserve at the moment,” the statement read.

Ms. Mangeshkar’s niece Rachana Shah said her aunt’s condition is “stable and good”.

When asked by when the singer will be discharged from the hospital, she said, “In a few days.”

Ms. Mangeshkar has lent her voice to thousands of songs in Hindi, regional and foreign languages.

Her last full album was for the late filmmaker Yash Chopra-directed 2004 film Veer Zaara .

Ms. Mangeshkar recorded her latest song this year Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki , which was released on March 30 as a tribute to the Indian Army.

She was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour in 2001.
